Fulshear, Texas

The land that would become Fulshear was first granted on July 16, 1824 to Churchill Fulshear Sr., one of the original “Old Three Hundred” colonists working with Stephen F. Austin.

 

In the decades that followed, the Fulshear plantation and surrounding lands developed into an agricultural community—cotton, rice, pecans, and livestock were dominant.

 

In 1888 the arrival of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad through the area spurred the town’s layout, the granting of a post office in 1890, and modest growth.

 

For much of the mid-20th century, Fulshear remained a small rural town with only a few hundred residents, incorporated as a city in 1977.

 

More recently, the expansion of Houston’s western suburbs and the appeal of nearby master-planned communities have accelerated the town’s growth dramatically.

Fulshear is served primarily by two districts: Lamar Consolidated Independent School District (LCISD) and to some extent Katy Independent School District (KISD), depending on exact address.

 

LCISD offers campuses spanning elementary through high school levels; as the area continues to grow, new campuses and expansions are common.
